This years Honey Festival has an open section for Honey, Sultana and Cherry Cake and honey tablet, which can be handed in to the organisers on the Friday evening (between 5pm-6pm) or Saturday morning (between 8.30-9.30am).

If you fancy trying your luck in these categories, here’s the recipes that should be followed:
Honey, Sultana and Cherry Cake
200g self raising flour, 110g butter, 25g sugar, 2 medium eggs, 110g glace cherries (halved), 175g honey, 175g sultanas.
Pre-heat over to 170 degrees/gas mark 3 (160 fan oven).
Lightly dust the sultanas and cherries with a spoon of flour. Cream the butter and sugar together then mix in the beaten eggs. Add remaining flour and beat mixture well and lightly. Add a little milk if necessary. Fold in the floured fruit. Transfer mixture into a buttered round tin (16.5-19cms in diameter) Bake for approximately 1 hour until the cake is golden brown and baked through.
1kg sugar, 50g butter, 1 tin evaporated milk, 175g honey.
Place all ingredients in a pan and dissolve slowly.Boil until showing signs of setting, then beat well with a spoon until creamy. Pour into a greased tin and mark when cool.
Bring your entries along on the day and pick up a class label for your items. Entries are £3 each.
