How to repot houseplants
You’ll need:
- New drainage pot – roughly 2 inches larger than the old one
- New decorative pot – roughly 2 inches larger than the old one
- Fresh compost
optional: watering can, stakes, repotting tray
Step-by-step guide to repot your houseplant
- First trim any dead foliage or flower from your plant, before gently removing your plant from its old pot
- Fill your new drainage pot 1/4 of the way with compost
- Place your houseplant on top and fill the sides with compost – top tip: if you use a stake to disperse the compost after filling this will help with drainage and ensure an even coverage around your plant
- Water your houseplant – some of the compost may sink at this stage into air pockets, this is normal. All you need to do is top with some more compost before giving your plant a final watering.
- Lift pot to allow all of the excess water to fully drain from the pot, before placing into your new decorative pot!
It really is that simple to repot your houseplants.
