“Proud to support community projects and charities”

As well as being an award winning destination garden centre, we are locally grown and very proud of our links to the community. We are equally proud to help and support local charities, schools and community projects, in particular with their gardens!

In 2019, Simpsons Garden Centre, staff and customers have raised and donated over £20,000 for local charities and projects. Here’s a little about what we got up to…

Haven Appeal

This year we were delighted to support local charity The Elsie Normington Foundation. The charity visited the store on a few occasions across the year to let people know more about The Haven Project – a specialist play centre, respite wing, community coffee shop and supported housing for children and young adults with learning disabilities in Inverness.

Highland Hospice Support

We also supported a number of Highland Hospice events throughout the year including the annual ‘Strictly Inverness’ event. In 2019 we were part of the Hospice’s first ever Art Trail of fabulous and uniquely decorated squirrels.

Here’s some of our team pictured with our sponsored squirrel called ‘Plant a Garden for Red Squirrels’ sculpture, created by local artist Ingebjorg Smith.  Our squirrel had thousands of visitors across the 3 months period it was based at the garden centre.

Gardening Hero Graeme

We managed to well and truly surprise Graeme from our horti team in May when Plant Manager Dale presented him with the HTA ‘Gardening Hero’ of the month award. This was in recognition for his hard work at the garden centre and voluntary gardening work.

Maggies Highlands

At the end of November, we held our charity ‘Ladies Night’ raising over £8,000 to support Maggies Highland –  who provide emotional, practical and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends. Every penny raised from this events stays in the local area. The team have now raised in excess of £40,000 from this event!

In November we launched our Winter Wonderland experience with a ticketed VIP evening with all ticket sales going to MFR Cash for Kids.  The £1,900 raised helping towards their ‘Mission Christmas’ campaign.

Keep posted on the exciting projects we’ll be supporting during 2020, via our facebook pages, twitter and in store.

We do our utmost to support as many local charities, groups, schools etc as possible. If you’re looking for a donation, please put your request in writing at least one month prior to your event, and send to our marketing department, Simpsons Garden Centre, Inshes, Inverness, IV2 5BA or email:

Cultivation Street Ambassadors

Don’t forget we’re also ambassadors for Cultivation Street, which is a campaign headed up by celebrity gardener David Domoney which helps garden centres across the UK to support and inspire community and school gardens in the local area.  To find out more click HERE.

Award Winning Ambassadors

Our very own Graeme and Dale were awarded joint third prize in the Cultivation Street Ambassador of the Year competition! They were entered in recognition of their extensive work with the Highland Hospice Sensory Garden and for sharing their passion and knowledge of gardening with local community groups, schools and nurseries. As well as community projects Dale, Graeme and our outdoor team are all amazing ambassadors for anyone who wants to get into gardening, offering expert advice and growing inspiration to newbies and experts alike.
